State of Knowledge on The Origin of Thai Local Government: The Local Government under the Royal Initiative of King Prajadhipok
The state of knowledge on Thai local government emerged, along with a rise of the modern state, in the reign of King Chulalongkorn. Although King Chulalongkorn was the first to introduce and impose the idea of the local government by establishing the sanitary board, King Prajadhipok was the one who raised up the board to municipal through the Municipal (draft) Act B.E.2473 (1930). However, both missions were set up only for public services without providing administrative autonomy for them. Therefore, the opportunities for the citizens to participate in politics based on democratic principles were constrained.
