The objectives of this research were to study the life and works of impressionist artists within the social and cultural context of Thailand for making a short film script: “The Impressionist.” This research was a qualitative research. This research contained in-depth interviews of the artists creating impressionist paintings and their lives. The results indicated that nature, the simple life of Thai people and Buddhism were the main inspirations of Thai impressionist artists. The Law of Nature and Trilaksana (three characteristics of existence),which is about the impermanence, suffering and non-self of everything is compatible with the essence of impressionism characterized by relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on the accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles.
