Botanical characteristics
Stem: Shrub, 1-2 m tall. The stem is greenish-brown. Lots of branches on the sides. There are long sharp thorns along the trunk.
Leaves are single, opposite each other, elongated oval, 2.5 cm wide, 5-7 cm long. The base is smooth, the leaf margins are smooth, the leaf tip is pointed, the leaf surface is smooth, the leaves are dark green and shiny. The middle of the leaf is red. Short petioles are red. and at the base of the stalk there is a pair of purple pointed thorns pointing downwards.
Flowers emerge in clusters and grow at the ends of the branches. The inflorescence is about 8 cm long with large bracts arranged in a green cylindrical shape. The tips of the leaves are purple-red. The flowers are yellow. The base of the petals is connected together to form a tube. The tip is divided into 5 petals, divided into 3 upper petals and 2 lower petals.
The fruit is an oval, flat, and long pod.
Seeds have 2-4 seeds.
