Botanical characteristics
The trunk is a herbaceous plant, 30-60 cm tall. The trunk is angular and green. The branches form small bushes.
The leaves are single, opposite each other, oval-shaped, 2-3 cm wide, 4-8 cm long. The leaf tip is pointed, the base is rounded, and the leaf margins are smooth. The leaves are smooth and green.
Flowers appear in clusters in leaf axils and at the ends of branches. The flowers are small, white, the calyx has 5 petals and is hairy. The petals are connected together to form a tube. The tip is separated into 2 lobes. The lower 2 lobes are narrower than the upper lip. The 3 upper lobes have a long dark red trail running across them.
The fruit is a dry pod split into 2 halves with a pointed tip and is greenish-brown.
