Since enjoyment in media is one of the factors that cause media organizations’ commercial achievement, many of them tried to heighten enjoyment by increasing violent content in media. The objective of the current study is to investigate the effect of violence and fictional characters’ alienation on audiences’ enjoyment. Content analysis was used for data collection. The Legend of The Blue Sea (2016-2017) which is a Korean television serial was selected to use in the analysis. Ten episodes were chosen out of total 20 episodes, and in each selected episode, 15 scenes were listed down in the codesheet. After 4 raters finished coding all scenes, univariate regression was used to test the model. The results showed that enjoyment was negatively influenced by violent content in media but positively caused by characters’ alienation. These findings suggested that media organization may choose to use characters’ alienation and other strategies to improve audiences’ enjoyment instead of using violent content.
