A Study on Music in the Ordinances at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Bangsaen.
This
research is a major in Ethnomusicology.
The researchers studied references,
interviews and observations with
objectives as follows; 1) To learn about
the context and history of Christianity
of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Bangsaen.
2) To study the important music featured
in the mass majority of the year in Our
Lady of Lourdes Church, Bangsaen. By
performing sacred music in the
ceremonies to build the faith of god,
and create religious activities in order
to hold on the religious, The study
found that 1) Our Lady of Lourdes
Church, Bangsaen is a high reputation
church in Bangsean community, Saen Suk
Subdistrict, Muang Chonburi
District,
Chonburi Province because the place is
closed to establishment for education
and also the attractions. These are the
distinctive points of the church, so
there are a lot of Catholics come and
join the important religious ceremonies
occasionally. The
example of the
ceremonies at the church are Community
Celebration of Faith, Easter, and
Christmas. 2) The study sacred music use
in the mass was found that the
researchers chose 14 the sacred songs to
analyze, including hymns, for examples,
Pontifical Anthem, Oh Lord 6, Saksith
San Saksith, Holy Thursday, Holy Friday
(Holy Cross), Holy Saturday (Psalms
chapter 89), Palm Sunday (Psalms chapter
22), Chai Yo Dae Pra Ong, Joy to the
World, Rest in the Lord, O Holy Night,
Alleluia, Choen Rong Ban Leng, and Ave
Maria. The analysis of the composition
of the music, we found that most of the
composition style and phase in some of
the songs have just one or long sentence
that composed of two sentences with
questions and answers, and also in the
other form, for instance, binary form
which is the style of music with
two-part-form. The style of questions
and answers format can be repeated
several times such as A:B, AABB, ABAB.
The Ternary Form is the style of music a
style of music that has three form, for
instance, ABA, ABÁ. Most of scale
of the rhythm was found 4/4 and 2/2 in
chord progression. It is the chord
progression with a heavy in the end,
however, the melodic progression is
conjunct progression and disjunct
progression. The harmony was found in
coordination with chorus. In chorus, the
harmony was found major third and
Perfect fifth with four part harmony.
Nevertheless, in melismatic singing was
found that the technique was based on
the composed lyrics of each sacred
music, including the meaning of the
songs are meaningful for the worship and
ceremonies at Ordinances of Our Lady of
Lourdes Church, Bangsaen.
