The objectives of this research paper included: 1) to study selecting behavior and tourists’ need for self-travel handbooks in the area of Bang Nok Kwak community, Samut Songkhram province and 2) to study the tourism image of Bang Nok Kwak community, Samut Songkhram province in order to design a self-travel handbook. This paper utilized both qualitative and quantitative methods. The main research tools were an in-depth interview as well as a questionnaire. The sample for in-depth interview included five persons in the community which were two community leaders, two officials from local tourism center, and one local community members. A questionnaire was used to elicit information from tourists regarding touring handbook and tourism image of the community. The finding disclosed that tourists were interested in local lifestyle, history, tradition, cultural, and tourist activities. The tourism image of Bang Nok Kwak community was genuine local tradition, beautiful river, and friendliness. Moreover, the handbook for self-touring should be focused on the real identify of the community. Local tourism presentation should be in form of a story telling about the tourist destination in the community with picture drawings. An A5 or pocket book size was the most appropriated size. The details in the handbook should include a map that shows all important tourist destinations. The handbook itself should be a good souvenir that can remind tourists to revisit the community.
