National Tree
Care Day originated from the vision of
Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother
(Somdej Ya), who placed great importance
on the care and maintenance of trees and
sought to restore the balance of nature.
Throughout her life, she personally
engaged in the planting and nurturing of
trees. For this reason, the Cabinet
passed a resolution on June 26, 1990,
designating October 21—the
birthday of Her Royal Highness the
Princess Mother (Somdej Phra
Srinagarindra Boromrajajonani)—as
"National Annual Tree Maintenance
Day."
Subsequently, the
Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives
solicited suggestions from the general
public to determine an appropriate name
for this day. The name "National
Tree-Loving Day" (Wan Rak Ton Mai
Prajam Pi Khong Chat) was selected;
consequently, "National Tree
Maintenance Day" was renamed
"National Tree-Loving
Day"—also referred to simply
as "National Tree-Loving Day"
(Wan Rak Ton Mai Haeng
Chat)—effective from October 15,
1990, onwards.
