Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Samut Songkhram Campus—led by Assistant Professor Dr. Pimporn Thongmuang, Vice President for Samut Songkhram Campus—assigned Mr. Ekkachon Noingern, Director of the General Affairs Division, Samut Songkhram Campus Office, to lead a team of personnel from the Buildings and Facilities Department of the Samut Songkhram Campus Office. We are continuously driving efforts to conserve natural resources and the environment by planting mangrove trees around the campus. This initiative aims to expand green spaces, restore coastal ecosystems, and contribute to addressing climate change, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Green Campus principles.
Mangrove trees are hailed as "superheroes" of climate and environmental conservation due to their capacity to absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂)—a primary driver of global warming—and their ability to sequester at least four times more carbon in their soil and biomass than typical terrestrial trees. Consequently, they play a vital role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, purifying the air, and effectively balancing the ecosystem.
Beyond their carbon-sequestering benefits, mangrove trees help prevent coastal erosion and reduce soil degradation; they serve as habitats for diverse aquatic life and wildlife, while also enhancing biodiversity—a crucial foundation for the long-term conservation of natural resources.
This activity reflects the commitment of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Samut Songkhram Campus, to being a higher education institution that prioritizes environmental development alongside fostering an awareness of natural resource conservation among staff and students. Together, they aim to build a green society, mitigate the impacts of global warming, and sustainably pass on a healthy environment to future generations.
