The preeminent poet of the Rattanakosin era has been acclaimed as the "bourgeois epic poet" of Rattanakosin.

         Sunthorn Phu is a renowned Thai poet who was honored by UNESCO in 1986 as a world-class literary figure. He rose to prominence during the reign of King Phra Phutthaloetla Naphalai (Rama II) and produced several celebrated works, such as *Phra Aphai Mani*, *Nirat Phra Bat*, and *Nirat Phu Khao Thong*.
