This is the royal wish of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, reflecting the water shortage problem in Thailand decades ago, which led to the "Forest Loves Water" project, a project with the objective of restoring moisture to the Thai land.
The "Forest Loves Water" Project was initiated on December 20, 1982, at Ban Tham Tiew, Song Dao District, Sakon Nakhon Province, after Her Majesty the Queen Mother observed the deterioration of the forests, which led to drought in the land. Especially in the Northeastern region, which is close to the source where salt water is pumped from underground for use, resulting in the surface becoming a salt bed that spreads over a wide area.
Her Majesty the Queen Mother studied and found that tree roots can hold fresh water and the fresh water will push out the salt water in the ground. Later, she had an idea. To restore degraded forests to their original water-absorbing state, which is the origin of the Forest Loves Water Project.
Since the first Forest Loves Water Project was established at Ban Tham Tiew, Sakon Nakhon Province in 1982, it has been continued in three other locations:
