Waning Moon Day 1, Month 8

“Buddhist Lent Day” is an important day in Buddhism when Theravada monks will make a vow to stay in one place for the entire 3-month rainy season as prescribed by the Vinaya, without staying overnight anywhere else. Or colloquially, This Buddhist Lent is considered a practice for monks directly. Monks cannot skip the Buddhist Lent because any monk who does not observe the Buddhist Lent is considered to have committed an offense according to the Buddhist precepts.
