Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Samut Songkhram Campus Organizes "Songkran Tradition Preservation Project" to Celebrate Thai New Year 2025

On April 9, 2025, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Samut Songkhram Campus, organized the event "Preserving Songkran Traditions and Celebrating the Thai New Year 2025" at Phadungcheewa Building. The event was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pimpron Thongmuang, Vice President of the campus, with participation from university executives, faculty members, and staff.

The celebration featured traditional Thai rituals, including alms-giving to monks, water pouring over the revered image of Luang Pho Ban Laem, and a replica of Her Royal Highness Princess Sunandha Kumariratana. Participants also took part in the water-pouring ceremony to seek blessings from senior administrators, reflecting the university’s commitment to preserving Thai cultural heritage and fostering good fortune among staff.

This event aligns with the university’s mission to promote and preserve Thai culture while fostering local awareness in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

       ???? SDG 4: Quality Education
The event supports Target 4.7 by promoting lifelong learning through cultural awareness, global citizenship, and appreciation of local heritage among faculty, staff, and students.

???? SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
By respectfully celebrating Songkran and traditional Thai New Year customs, particularly those unique to Samut Songkhram—such as the reverence of Luang Pho Ban Laem—the event supports Target 11.4, which aims to safeguard the world’s cultural heritage.

This cultural activity reflects the university’s intention to embed values and consciousness of cultural identity in its academic community, promoting responsibility toward society and the environment.
